Why take FASLODEX?

There are a number of reasons for you and your doctor to consider breast cancer treatment with FASLODEX.

Safety and effectiveness

FASLODEX was evaluated in two international clinical trials involving a total of 851 postmenopausal women with metastatic breast cancer whose disease had returned or progressed following previous treatment with an antiestrogen, which was usually tamoxifen. The women in the studies were randomly assigned to receive either FASLODEX or anastrozole, another hormonal breast cancer treatment. These trials established the safety and effectiveness of FASLODEX in this setting. The results showed that FASLODEX may be effective when tamoxifen no longer worked.

Once-a-month treatment schedule

FASLODEX is given once a month as an injection into the buttock. It most likely would be given by a nurse in your doctor's office. The once-a-month schedule has many benefits.

  • Convenience. With a monthly injection, you don’t have to remember to take a pill every day
  • Simplicity. Your treatment with FASLODEX can be coordinated with other treatments you may be getting in your doctor’s office
  • Regular doctor’s visits. Because your treatment is done at the office, you have regular opportunities to update your physician or nurse about your health

Side effects

In clinical studies, the most commonly reported FASLODEX side effects were nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, back pain, hot flashes, and sore throat. Withdrawal from treatment due to side effects occurred in 2.8% of patients receiving FASLODEX in clinical trials.

Injection site pain and reactions have been reported; however, they were usually mild in nature. If you are concerned about any reactions you may be experiencing, you should contact your doctor immediately.

FASLODEX is a hormonal treatment, not a cytotoxic chemotherapy. In clinical trials, hair loss occurred in 1.2% of patients treated with FASLODEX. During your treatment, if you are concerned about any reaction you may be experiencing, you should contact your doctor’s office right away.
